Monitoreo de la Salud Estructural con Fotogrametría

Structural Health Monitoring with Photogrammetry

Código B044-T1 Tipo: PROYECTO SIIP TIPO 1 BIENAL 2022 Convocatoria 2022 Resolucion Res. 3978/22-R

This project is framed around making the life cycles of structures longer and safer. This is addressed through Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). The overall objective is: to develop new algorithms for damage identification. This is divided into 2 specific objectives: 1. to develop an algorithm for which the necessary measurements are simpler to perform and less rigorous in accuracy, and 2. to develop an algorithm where the information generated is useful for decision making. The hypothesis for objective 1. is: The errors that contaminate the measurements taken on structures can be drastically reduced by algorithms that take into account the structure, damage and error models. The hypothesis for objective 2. is: In cases of decision making on structures at risk, expert opinion on the identified damage can be replaced by the numerical resolution of an optimization problem based on the criteria of these experts. For both objectives, the tasks are as follows: review the state of the art, formulate new algorithms, evaluate them by means of numerical simulations and experimental tests, and reflect on the lessons learned. With this, it is expected to be able to perform MSE with low-cost photogrammetry that is useful for decision making.

Cultural heritage, local development and land use planning in the urban-rural interface territories in the north of Mendoza

Código B042-T1 Tipo: PROYECTO SIIP TIPO 1 BIENAL 2022 Convocatoria 2022 Resolucion Res. 3978/22-R

Palabra claves: Patrimonio cultural, Interfase urbano-rural, Planificación

The natural and cultural heritage is investigated as a tool to guide the processes of land-use planning in urban-rural interface territories subjected to strong processes of urban sprawl. Natural and cultural assets are dynamic elements of local development because they involve the identity of the communities and of the territory. This project derives, in part, from some theoretical results obtained in previous projects corresponding to SECyT 2016-2018 and SIIP 2019-2021, in which we studied the landscape of urban and rural segregated territories in Mendoza and the generation of material and symbolic frontiers in urban-rural interface areas, respectively. This proyect seeks to broaden the results by focusing on cultural capital linked to heritage to guide planning actions. For this, qualitative methods are used from articulating documentary, conversational and observational techniques. Thereby, it is intended to recognize the singularities of the interface territories with strong urbanization processes on agricultural soils and foothills, where heritage accounts of territorialization processes over time and provides identity for its current planning and local development. The project is framed within the strategic lines defined by the academic units, specifically with lines n° 5, 9 and 23.

Deep Reinforcement Learning based Autoscaling of Scientific Workflows in the Cloud

Código B038-T1 Tipo: PROYECTO SIIP TIPO 1 BIENAL 2022 Convocatoria 2022 Resolucion Res. 3713/22-R

In-silico experimentation has become a topic of special interest for the scientific community since it allows the available computational power to be exploited to accelerate productivity in multiple areas of science. In this sense, scientific workflows represent an important abstraction for modeling and executing large-scale experiments in multiple disciplines. The Cloud computing paradigm facilitates elastic access to the computational infrastructure required for the execution of this type of applications. Autoscaling strategies aim to exploit the elasticity of the Cloud to achieve efficient workflow executions. Autoscaling is a decision-making problem in which it is necessary to establish when and how to increase or decrease computational resources, and how to adjust them to the current workload. These decisions must be taken into account by considering some optimization criteria such as time and the associated economic cost. Moreover, a Cloud is a dynamic environment with multiple uncertainty elements (e.g., variable performance of virtualized infrastructure, fluctuations in prices, possible failures) which makes it difficult to make the right decisions. Reinforcement Learning (RL) appears as a promising approach for Cloud autoscaling since it allows learning appropriate policies for resource management that are transparent (without human intervention), dynamic (without statically computed plans) and adaptable ( constantly updated). These characteristics are three distinctive aspects to consider compared to other autoscaling policies widely used that are defined ad-hoc or based on meta-heuristics. Then, Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) allows the management of large-dimensional states and actions spaces, which is an important limitation in the most traditional RL approaches. Despite this, there are still few and very recent advances in the application of DRL techniques to the problem of workflow autoscaling in the Cloud, therefore, the DRL study is of special interest.

Security of devices used in IoT through the use of Blockchain, NFT (non fungible token) and/or VPN.

Código B036-T1 Tipo: PROYECTO SIIP TIPO 1 BIENAL 2022 Convocatoria 2022 Resolucion Res. 3713/22-R

There are several factors that contribute to the vulnerability of IoT devices: a mix of bad designs, unregulated or inefficiently regulated environments, among others. Attackers can use vulnerabilities in these devices to gain permanent access to these devices and the network infrastructure through which they are connected. Many IoT system developments use third-party software components (such as libraries), which may incorporate vulnerabilities. Security breaches in IoT devices may be due to: (1) IoT devices as victims and (2) IoT devices as attack tools.Given this scenario, it is necessary to find alternative technologies to solve this problem. This paper proposes to investigate technologies such as Blockchain, NFT (non-fungible token) and virtual private networks (VPN). These technologies, successfully used in other applications, constitute a possible tool for the environments of devices used in IoT systems to benefit in terms of the security of the data they process.

Ventana de predicción de ocurrencias de avalanchas de nieve. Análisis de un nuevo enfoque

Snow avalanche occurrence prediction window. Analysis of a new approach.

Código B033-T1 Tipo: PROYECTO SIIP TIPO 1 BIENAL 2022 Convocatoria 2022 Resolucion Res. 3713/22-R

The behavior of snow presents unpredictable characteristics every time it is about analyzing the risk of occurrence and prediction of avalanches in mountain areas, in the Mendoza mountain range, ski resorts and other regions of Argentina and the world. It is known that certain natural phenomena, together with wind transport of snow, are responsible for the initiation of a fault that progresses and triggers a reaction causing snow avalanches. Apparently, they start and progress without prior notice, causing significant damage: access roads closed, destruction in general, closure of facilities, highways, ski resorts, and of course, human losses. It is necessary to know them better in order to prevent disastrous events. The risks can be identified, and the different types of snow avalanches as well. Snow avalanche occurrence predictive models play an important role when it comes to having more resources and elements in decision-making about the start and progress of snow avalanches. New research shows that it is possible to analyze the phenomenon from another perspective and use indirect measurement methods and techniques on the evolution and metamorphosis of snow from the moment it is deposited, after a snowfall, on the ground surface. The cohesion of the snow layers affects the internal structure of the snow cover, generating internal faults. Recent research links the energy that snow reflects from sunlight back into space with its structure. The analysis of satellite images that measure the reflection of light infers that the size of the snowflake on the surface can be known and measured. This new relationship generates a new perspective on the subject.

Influence of pH on the mobilization of heavy metals

Código B028-T1 Tipo: PROYECTO SIIP TIPO 1 BIENAL 2022 Convocatoria 2022 Resolucion Res. 3032/22-R

The study of heavy metal contamination in the sediments of the Potrerillos Dam has particular interest, since the water contained in this dam is used to supply the main water treatment plants in Gran Mendoza.Heavy metals are one of the potentially more toxic components incorporated into the hydrological cycle, either by lithogenic or geochemical contribution from the action of erosion and rain on minerals, or caused by industrial activity. The importance of analyzing these metals in water bodies is due to their high toxicity, high persistence and rapid accumulation by living organisms.Contaminants in soils and sediments can be found in six different forms. For each case the behavior of the contaminant is different. The mobility of a metal depends not only on its chemical speciation, the geoedaphic parameters and the modification of certain environmental parameters, such as pH, become essential to assess the sensitivity of soils to the aggression of pollutants. That is why this work has as main objectives, to study the relationship between pH variations in the ecosystem and the mobilization of metals from sediment to the water column, and to relate the geomorphological characteristics of the soil with the migration of metals in response to pH variations. The proposed methodology to perform this project consists of carrying out a detailed bibliographic, scientific and technical study, related to the influence of acidity regarding the mobilization of metals, bioavailability, removal of metals from the sediment and affectation of the trophic chain. Choose the study zone in the area of the Potrerillos Dam, and design the sampling in order to obtain representative samples of water and sediment. Run a physicochemical characterization of the water and sediment samples taken, and with them, perform a pilot test on a laboratory scale where it is possible to study the mobilization of heavy metals within the sediment phases (through the Tessier method) , and towards the water column due to pH changes in the medium.Understanding the effects of reductive dissolution on adsorbent substrates and the consequent dissolution of adsorbed contaminants is important in mitigating health effects and making decisions about water treatment.

Wine tourism and cultural heritage: an opportunity for local development

Código B027-T1 Tipo: PROYECTO SIIP TIPO 1 BIENAL 2022 Convocatoria 2022 Resolucion Res. 3032/22-R

Palabra claves: Enoturismo, Patrimonio cultural, Desarrollo

TThe present project seeks to formulate a value proposal that is applied to activities, products and services offered to the tourist-user-consumer of wine tourism in Mendoza, promoting a significant differentiation from large world competitors regarding wine tourism. In this framework, the project seeks to identify wine tourism territories not valued as such, understanding these territories as the sum of layers made up of the geographical support or substrate (soil), the improvements that have been projected on it (assets) and the activities, products or services derived from the wine agroindustry that, read in a systemic logic and taking into account their historical density, originate " production landscapes", capable of being incorporated into current tourist circuits, in order to generate resources to favor local development. Specifically, it is interesting to investigate the administrative jurisdictions of Luján de Cuyo and Maipú, as they are creditors of unique qualities, which make them repositories of unique attractions within the wine tourism offer. Likewise, the project will seek to develop Mendoza's economic assets in both public and private spheres, through the collection of information and the production of specific knowledge. In a second instance, it seeks to improve and expand the oenological-tourism position that the province has as "World Wine Capital", tending to achieve greater visibility of the productive corridors that link the productive centers with the urban centers of reference. For this work, the Case Study, Content Analysis and closed and open surveys are used, which will provide the necessary inputs for the verification of the hypotheses. The project is framed within the following strategic lines defined by the academic units: n°5- Productive matrix: natural and cultural heritage, art and orange economy (cultural services), n°9- Environment, sustainable development and land use planning.
